Microchipping
A microchip is a permanent
form of identification that is put underneath your pet’s skin. The chip is
not visible, but it is detected when a scanner is placed over the area of
the chip. Each chip is the size of a grain of rice, and it has a unique
number associated with it. This number is in a data base so that the owner
of the pet and the veterinarian can be notified if a lost pet is found.
The Androscoggin Animal
Hospital uses the ResQ
Pet Tracking Microchip. ResQ
offers the first scanner for animal shelters and veterinarians that can read
all brands of tested microchips currently sold in the United States*, and
the first no-cost pet registry.
* Third-party test results confirmed
that the ResQ reader successfully read 200 out of 200 encrypted AVIDTM
microchips, 50 out of 50 unencrypted AVID microchips, and 100 out of 100
HomeAgainTM
microchips.
